The day turned out to be a very cold affair with parts of the lake freezing over but remaining mostly fishable a great feat considering that most other venues had been frozen solid for days. In the end up it turned out that no fish were bagged on the day but one of the members Nidge Mac had been out the day before and baged a decent pike so the trophy went back with him. If you are looking for a cracking carp venue for your first twenty plus fish then we would definately give welham a go and the baillif Kelly is a smashing lad always on hand to give advice and help out, The owner Gary can be contacted through his site at http://www.welhamlake.co.uk/.

Craig Gren of Top Fishing Tackle presents Nidge with his well deserved trophy

Happy New Year

Well it's finally here 2010, this year will see some brand new exciting products at TFT and we hope to launch our own range of terminal tackle very soon so keep your eyes peeled. The dreaded snow has been putting the block on most fishing trips and for our own tackle consultants Craig Green and Gary Logan, things have been no different, the boys recently had a field trip down to welham Lake in Malton for a go at the wily carp but the big freeze put paid to the trip. Keeping warm is essential at this time of the year and that's why we have added the humble vacuum flask to our range of accessories, you can get these flasks now at an incredible £8.99

http://www.topfishingtackle.co.uk/productdetail.asp?id1=46&id2=2022&cid=286148989

NEW PRODUCTS

We have new products arriving all the time at Top Fishing Tackle as we try to offer you the gear you really need at a price you can really afford! This involves cleaning up or replacing the tired fly lines that we have been casting all season and clearing out the no doubt over flowing fly boxes, as well as promising ourselves not to tie so many flies for next season!!.

However for others its the beginning of pastures new until next March, many of us will go and dig out the coarse fishing gear and go off in search of new quarries to hunt out and maybe try to beat last seasons coarse pb's. Whatever your plans are for the close season have a good one and i hope to see you out on the river bank come March ready for a new and exciting trout season.

Test

mcr6vfsqx9

SUMMERS HERE

So summer has arrived and now is a time of anticipation and excitment for all anglers! as the water temperatures come up so does the surface fishing for species like carp and trout. The trip was held in Essex with the lads going out of Bradwell with skipper Terry Batt, on the day there were many personal bests landed and although the tope were elusive with none being landed the entire week, the lads wasted no time in getting to grip with smooth hounds, dogfish, thornback rays and numerous mackerel. Paul Stott was the winner of the heavy fish on the day landing a 14.5lb smooth hound all the fish captured were returned safely to the sea and the lads had a cracking day out and a few beers at night to celebrate the day and our very own tackle consultant Gary Logan was on hand to present the trophy for heaviest fish and the bronze medals for all the other guys on the trip. UK fishing forums is truly a forum for anglers to meet up and discuss all things fishing as well as the social events which are now becoming something of a legend amongst the forum fishing fraternity. Craig hails fom Wakefield and is 28 years old, among his fishing achievements are some new personal best carp caught recently after a change from match fishing. This week Craig tells us a little about pole and elastic selection.

Where do i begin with the pole? well the most important thing about using your first pole is to get a pole that is suitable for you, theres lots to think about length of the pole and weight you will see all these fancy 16m poles but unless your going to pay an absolute fortune they will be saggy and useless at full stretch so get the best you can for the money.

You have to make sure you try a few different poles and see which pole you feel comfortable holding for 10mins at least while your sat in the shop make sure its got good balance and is not hurting your back while holding it. All modern poles are designed to be fished with elastic running inside the top one, two or three sections, this elastic provides a shock absorber between the pole and a fighting fish. The pole elastic must be matched to the strength of the line and hooklink that you are using, and that should be matched to the size and species of fish that you are expecting to catch. To give you a couple of examples of elastic strength, number of pole sections, target venue and species see the table below:

No 1 - No 3 Top-1 kit Canals. Gudgeon, bleak, small rudd, small perch, small skimmers, ruffe.

No 4 - No 6 Top-2 kitRivers, canals and lakes. Roach, rudd, perch, skimmers, small chub, carp and tench.

No 8 - No 12Match top-3 or power top-2 kit River, canal or lake. Carp, tench, chub, bream.

No 14 - No 18Match top-3 or power top-2 kit Lakes. Tench and carp in open water.

No 20-plus Power top-2 kitLakes. Big carp or for margin fishing close to snags.

At the end of the elastic there are 3 types of connecters that can be used, but the easiest for begginers is the stonfo conecter all u need to do is attach a rig close to the stonfo and plumb your swim up. Get some free offerings out with the aid of a tosspot or catapult then fish into that depending on how you shot your float rig up you can make your rig either sink straight to the bottom or flutter lightly down but be ready if your doing the last method because 80% of the time you will get a hit straight away its all about feeding small but regular and most importantly enjoying it .......tight lines.
